The images were taken at Pauly’s studio and locations around Kirikiriroa alongside Pauly’s murals, with the aim to capture a sense of his artistic practice and his creative personality. Pauly is a linchpin in the development of creative community development in Kirikiriroa, including initiatives such as the Boon Street Art Festival.

Liala Gianstefani is a naturopath, herbalist, massage therapist and a drummer in several bands around Hokitika. Her warmth, creativity, originality and love of nature are reflected in the surroundings of her studio. This is where magic happens; here she creates herbal medicines along with divine creams and lotions.

It was beautiful to capture images of Mowena (and bubs) with her awa, the Arahura, nearby and with her marae on the hill. Listening to the awa ebb and whisper during our shoot was incredibly peaceful. Magic.
